Peter Mbah Reacts As Appeal Court Affirms His Victory As Enugu State Governor

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has upheld the election of Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of Enugu State.

A three-man panel of the appeal court delivered the judgment in a case filed by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Chijioke Edeoga.

The court affirmed the judgment of the Enugu Tribunal delivered on September 9, 2023, by the Hon. Justice K.M. Akano-led tribunal.

All three issues subject to the appeal were resolved in favour of Mbah.

The three-member panel led by Justice Tijani Yusuf Hassan held that the appellant failed to prove that Mbah forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and was not qualified to contest the election.

The judgement comes days after the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday awarding N5 million in damages against the NYSC for claiming that its discharge certificate held by Mbah was fake.

Judge Nyang Ekwo held that the NYSC and its Director General were guilty of misrepresentation of material facts.
