Activist Demands $150 Million Abacha’s Loot Be Spent On Niger Delta By Tinubu

Niger Delta activist, Ozobo Austin has urged President Bola Tinubu to allocate $150 million of Abacha’s loot recovery for vital Niger Delta infrastructure.

He contended that “the money is part of the Niger Delta oil funds being stolen by Abacha.”

In a statement released on Wednesday, Ozobo asserted that “the only rightful beneficiaries of these funds are the people of the Niger Delta, and it would be a grave injustice if the Nigerian government does not allocate these resources for the development of the Niger Delta region.”

He further emphasized, “It is a flawed argument to claim that this money belongs to the Nigerian government, as it was originally generated from the sale of Niger Delta crude oil.

“During the Abacha regime, oil revenue was the primary source of income in Nigeria, and this revenue was predominantly derived from the Niger Delta region. Therefore, it is accurate to assert that this money rightfully belongs to the Niger Delta, not the Nigerian government.”

Naija News reported that the French government recently announced its decision to repatriate the $150 million Abacha loot to Nigeria.

During her visit to Abuja, the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, confirmed this development and informed President Tinubu about the impending return of the confiscated funds.
