Spanish football legend, Sergio Ramos, has revealed that he rejected offers from Saudi Pro League clubs to return to Sevilla because he is indebted to the club.

Recall that Sergio Ramos started his professional football career at Sevilla in 2004 after graduating from the club’s football academy.

In 2005, he joined Real Madrid where he became one of the greatest defenders in the history of the game.

After winning virtually everything in club football at Real Madrid, he joined Paris Saint Germain but his spell there didn’t go successfully even though he helped the club to win two successive French Ligue 1 titles.

After the 2022-2023 season, his contract with PSG wasn’t renewed and he stayed without a club for months before he decided to return to Sevilla on a season-long deal.

While speaking with the press ahead of Sevilla’s Champions League game against Arsenal at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8, Sergio Ramos admitted that the fact that he would play Champions League football at Sevilla contributed to why he returned to the club.

“Sevilla were playing in the Champions League and that was a plus in making such a decision,” Ramos said.

“I had received offers of going abroad, to Saudi Arabia, for instance – but this was a debt I had to my club, to Sevilla, the first team where I triumphed.”

Since Sergio Ramos returned to Sevilla on September 4, 2023, he has played 7 games in which he provided an assist. He is currently out with a hamstring injury which forced him to miss Sevilla’s 2-1 defeat in the Champions League group stage game against Arsenal last week.

Ramos could miss the return leg on Wednesday as he is yet to fully recover from the injury.

He said, “It is a minor injury. I hope to be able to play the game but I don’t know whether it might come too soon.

“Let’s just take it one day at a time and let’s see how I’m able to evolve and hopefully, I would love to play.”

Sevilla are still looking for their first win of the Champions League campaign as they sit in third place in the group, four points behind first-placed Arsenal who have six points in four games.
