A wanted criminal in Kano, Abba Barakita, has surrendered himself to police operatives.

The Kano State Police command confirmed this in a statement issued on Thursday evening, saying Barakita was among forty (40) other thugs who relinquished themselves at the force command.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the wanted criminal had not only been repentant but also had convinced 40 of his allies to surrender as well, adding that the repentant thugs have also surrendered their weapons.

He explained that in view of the development, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, had directed that the repentant thugs should be properly profiled and reformed.

Naija News understands that the Kano State Police Command had declared Barakita and two other thugs wanted in August 2023.

The wanted criminals include Barakita of Dorayi Quarters, Nasir Abdullahi, known as Chile Maidoki of Layin Falwaya Kurna Makabarta Quarters, and Hantar Daba of Kwanar Disu wanted, and Nasir Abdullahi had since surrendered himself to the command.

Barakita, however, on Thursday surrendered to the command and announced his repentance from thug activities of which he is being accused.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police command has confirmed reports of the murder of a 300-level student of the University of Port Harcourt, Justina Otuene, by her 400-level student boyfriend of the same institution, Demain Okoligwe.

The lover of the 300-level undergraduate of the Department of Biological Chemistry, Collins, was arrested after Otuene’s remains were found in his residence along NTA Road, Mgbuoba, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Parading the suspect before newsmen on October 26, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka, said operatives of Ozuoba Division received a complaint from a neighbour who complained of perceiving a very bad odour and immediately rushed to the police station, where the DPO led detectives to the scene.

He said, ‘’On arrival, the door was forcefully opened, and a Ghana must-go bag containing a lifeless body was recovered back to the station.”

CP Emeka further said the lifeless and butchered body of Justina Otuene, 20, a biochemistry 300-level student at Uniport, was recovered and deposited at the mortuary.

He mentioned that a preliminary investigation is in progress and that the case has been transferred to SCID for discreet investigation.

He condoled the family of the deceased victim and urged young ladies to be cautious and careful about any person they involve themselves in any form of relationship.
