The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has been accused of anti-party activities.

The National Coordinator of a group known as Progressive League of All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth, Usman Shuaibu, made the accusation while addressing a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja.

Shuaibu accused Kalu of working against the APC in the last presidential election in the guise of religion and tribal sentiment, thereby reducing the winning votes of the party.

The group’s coordinator also accused the deputy speaker of working against the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

He stated that the progress Onyejeocha has made, despite failing to return to the lower legislative chamber, should not worry the deputy speaker.

Shaibu, therefore, asked the national leadership of the party to call Kalu to order before he destroyed the party completely in Abia state.

He said: “We are worried. Why should the victory of the APC and Hon Onyejeocha in Abia state become a nightmare for Benjamin Kalu? Is there something more to it that he is not telling the APC or his political associates?” the coordinator said.

“We know how some highly placed persons who are the major beneficiaries of the APC worked against the party in the last presidential elections in the guise of religion and tribal sentiment, thereby reducing the winning votes of our great party.

“We recommend disciplinary action against the deputy speaker, Mr. Benjamin Kalu and his accomplices to serve as a deterrent to others who may wish to indulge in such dangerous anti-party activity in the near future.

“We call on the national chairman of our great party, His Excellency (Dr) Abdullahi Umar Ganduje CON, who is reconciling and repositioning the party for a better tomorrow, to immediately call Mr. Benjamin Kalu to order before he destroys the party completely in Abia state.”
