There was a commotion in Kogi State on Wednesday after gunmen reportedly stormed the venue of a Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship rally and started shooting at party supporters.

Though there was no record of killing, reports, however, revealed that scores of persons were injured in the sporadic shooting allegedly led by an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in the district.

“Some gunmen allegedly attacked and dispersed a Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship ward rally in Lejule, at the Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

“The gunmen, allegedly led by one Mohammed Alfa, said to be the assistant state chairman of the APC Kogi East District, descended on the rally venue at St. Mathew primary school Lejule and started shooting sporadically to disperse a mammoth crowd of SDP supporters that gathered at the event,” TVC News reported.

The media quoted an eyewitness to have confirmed the event, showing photos of several vehicles destroyed by the thugs.

He claimed that several persons were injured during the attack and properties worth millions were wrecked by the hoodlums.

Naija News understands that this is the second time that an SDP rally has been attacked by thugs in weeks.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the state APC is yet to respond to the allegation of its chieftain leading the said hoodlums that disrupted the SDP rally.

Naija News reports that Murtala Ajaka is the governorship candidate for SDP in the forthcoming November 11 governorship election in Kogi State. Ajaka recently described himself on live television during an interview, as the most popular contestant in the forthcoming polls.
