Victor Osimhen To Miss Nigeria Vs Mozambique Clash

The head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro, has confirmed that the country’s talismanic striker, Victor Osimhen has undertaken a scan to determine the severity of his hamstring injury.

The Portuguese tactician confirmed that the result of the scan carried out on Victor Osimhen will be out later today, October 15.

Osimhen sustained the hamstring injury during the Friendly game between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Saudi Arabia which ended in a 2-2 draw in Portugal on Friday, October 13.

During the game which ended in a 2-2 draw, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker walked off the pitch in the 55th minute due to the discomfort resulting from the injury.

Peseiro expressed his disappointment with Osimhen’s injury and mentioned that, given the player’s significance to both club and country, he may send Osimhen back to Napoli for further examination of the injury.

Peseiro added that he wouldn’t risk Osimhen for Monday’s friendly match against Mozambique, regardless of the severity of the injury. The friendly game will kick off in Portugal at 4 p.m.

The Portuguese tactician said, “He wasn’t at his best, we’ll evaluate whether to send him back to Naples.

“We always work in coordination with the clubs, so we must have respect just as they have for the national teams. We interface daily with each player.

“Our responsibility is also the physical form of our players. Osimhen is a fantastic player, Napoli needs him, and so do we. So it’s everyone’s responsibility.”

If Victor Osimhen’s hamstring injury is anything to go by, the Nigerian striker will not be available when Napoli take on Verona on Saturday, October 21.
