Nigerian prolific striker, Victor Boniface said working under the current manager of Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso, makes him happy.

Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen from Union SG on a transfer fee worth €20.50 million on July 22, 2023. He has been almost unstoppable under the tutelage of Alonso, who made his name in football while playing for Liverpool and then Real Madrid.

So far this season, the 22-year-old Nigerian striker has scored 9 goals and provided three assists for Bayer Leverkusen in ten games in all competitions.

Boniface’s effort in the German Bundesliga has helped his team to win 6 games and draw one game in seven matches. This outstanding performance has helped the club remain on top of the league table with 19 points in 7 games.

Even though Boniface has always been praised for the success of his new team, the Nigeria international has returned the credit to Xabi Alonso.

“He’s a great guy, great coach, and a great footballer. The passion is there, and he knows what he wants. Working with him makes me happy”, he told OmaSports TV.

Victor Boniface went further to insist that his teammates are the source of his success at the German Bundesliga table-toppers.

He said, “It’s not down to me. Leverkusen signed six or seven players; mine is to help the team, and they’re doing the same. This is not just about me, it’s also for the team.

“Coming to a top club like Leverkusen, playing for the first team, and helping the team has been good. For me, it’s a surprise, but it’s football, anything can happen.”

Victor Boniface could be in action for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Portugal at 5 p.m. later today, October 13, when the country takes on Saudi Arabia in an international friendly. He could also play against Mozambique on Monday in another friendly game.
