Super Eagles veteran defender, Kenneth Omeruo is certain that he and his team will win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

According to Kenneth Omeruo who is the interim captain of the Super Eagles in the absence of Ahmed Musa, the Nigerian side has all it takes to win the 2023 AFCON.

The last time the Super Eagles won the AFCON was in South Africa in 2013 which means that they have not laid their hands on the trophy in the last ten years.

Before then, the Eagles won the tournament at home in 1980 and repeated the feat in Tunisia in 1994.

The Eagles have adopted the “Let’s Do It Again” mantra ahead of the 34th edition of the tournament which will take place in five cities across Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

The Eagles in the draw ceremony on Thursday night, October 12, were assigned to Group A, alongside the hosts, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

In an interview with the NFF media team, Kenneth Omeruo said the team’s “Let’s Do It Again” mantra projects the team’s hope of capturing a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title in Ivory Coast.

He said, “I think the group we find ourselves in matters because in football you ought to find yourself in an easy group so you come out top and from there you can find your way. But like I said if we have a winning mentality it doesn’t matter what team we face and I am excited and looking forward to knowing our opponents.

“I do believe we have the quality to win the AFCON, we have to take every game step by step and create the winning mentality the coach talked about. The coach has brought top players into the squad and I know some of them, I have played against Fisayo (Dele-Bashiru) in Turkey and I can say the players are top ones.”
