Edo Dep Gov Resumes Work In New Office With Prayer Warriors

Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has finally resumed work in his new office located at No. 7, Osadebey Avenue in Benin.

The Edo State number two citizen returned to work at the new office after sanctification service led by Reverend fathers from the Benin Archdiocese.

Naija News reports that the clerics were joined in praying, blessing and spraying holy water inside and outside the premises of Shaibu’s new office.

According to Shaibu, the prayer session was a regular exercise since he assumed office as deputy governor of the state, adding that it was meant to thank God and commit the new month as well as the new office into the hands of God.

Shaibu’s Rift With Governor Obaseki

Naija News reports that Shaibu and his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, have had a fallout earlier over the deputy governor’s gubernatorial ambition.

It was said their political fight was caused by arguments bordered on who to succeed the incumbent governor in the forthcoming 2024 governorship election.

During the crisis, Shaibu asked an Abuja Federal High Court to stop the governor, the state assembly, and the chief judge of the state from impeaching him.

Obaseki was, however, offended by Shaibu’s action and ordered his eviction from his official office and allocated a new office to him outside the government house.

The political tussle led to the disbandment of Shaibu’s press crew and removal as the supervisory head of Edo State Sports Commission and revenue generation agencies in the state, Naija News reports.

However, Shaibu made a U-turn on September 21 tendering a public apology to the governor and begged for forgiveness.

Responding, Obaseki said, “As a person of faith, I am under obligation to accept this apology because as they say, to err is human, to forgive is divine.”
