Adamu Garba Reacts As Supreme Court Affirms Tinubu’s Victory

Former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has expressed his view regarding the release of the academic records of President Bola Tinubu by the Chicago State University (CSU).

Naija News recalls the University on Monday released Tinubu’s academic records to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, based on the directive of an American court.

However, shortly after the release of the document, Garba said the CSU had vindicated President Tinubu and authenticated the genuineness of his academic records.

He berated Atiku for attacking Tinubu personally to the level of willfully digging into their records to score a point, adding that it is not a practice of a healthy democracy.

Garba said he expects Atiku and Peter Obi to congratulate Tinubu on the affirmation of his election by the tribunal and a withdrawal of all contestations against his victory.

He wrote: “Chicago State University unquestionably vindicated President Tinubu and authenticates the genuineness of his academic records. See eh, we within the younger generation need to learn that in politics, never get personal.

“No matter how hard it becomes, take your wins with magnanimity and your loss with faith. Attacking a political opponent so personally to the level of willfully digging into their records to score a point is not a practice of a healthy democracy.

“Now that PEPT upheld the victory of Tinubu and CSU confirmed the authenticity of his academic credentials, what next? I shall expect heartful congratulations from both the opponents in the PDP and LP on the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and a withdrawal of all contestations against his victory. That is the least of the statesmanly actions required from them.”

Recall that Atiku had asked the varsity to release to him the academic records of his political opponent in the last general elections in Nigeria.

The PDP presidential candidate is currently challenging the declaration of Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 poll.

Parts of Atiku’s petitions include challenging the academic records of the APC presidential candidate. He argued that Tinubu did not graduate from Chicago State University as claimed in his academic records.

In a copy of the latest judgment by the US Court, Judge Nancy Maldonado noted that CSU raised no objection to Judge Jeffery Gilbert’s decision that Tinubu’s academic record be made public.

The court explained that any intrusion on Tinubu’s privacy interests in his educational records is outweighed by Atiku’s interest in the sought-after discovery.

Maldonado overruled Tinubu’s objections to Gilbert’s recommended ruling and, therefore, asked the University to release Tinubu’s full academic records.
