Arsenal’s winger, Bukayo Saka might not be playing for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, but his love for his ancestral home is unquenchable.

The 22-year-old Bukayo Saka who was born to Nigerian parents Adenike and Yomi Saka, took to his Instagram page on Sunday evening, October 1, to join the world in celebrating the country’s 63rd Independence Day.

Saka did that by posting a picture of himself wearing a green and white jacket while taking a selfie with a group of excited Nigerians. The England international took the picture when he visited Lagos, Nigeria between May 31 and June 2023.

In the caption of the Instagram post, Saka simply wrote: “Happy Independence Day Nigeria !”

Recall that the Federal Republic of Nigeria marked its 63rd birthday on October 1, 2023, and Bukayo Saka who has been in awesome form for Arsenal didn’t miss the opportunity to celebrate with his ancestral home.

While most Premier League players spent their last summer break in highly developed countries, the England international chose to spend his summer break in Lagos.

Saka who was eligible to play for Super Eagles but opted to play for the Three Lions of England has been very consistent for Arsenal. In the last three seasons, he has won the club’s Player of the Season twice, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 seasons.

So far this season, the England international has scored five goals and provided 4 assists in all competitions for Arsenal. His current contract with the club will expire on June 30, 2028.
