Do Not Disrespect Traditional Rulers Like Some Politicians - Oba Of Benin Tells LP Guber Aspirant

The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has cautioned the Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant for Edo State in the forthcoming election, Kenneth Imansuagbon, not to disrespect traditional rulers as some politicians do.

Naija News understands that the monarch gave the admonition when Imansuagbon and his team visited him for royal blessings for his political career and gubernatorial aspiration ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Oba Ewuare urged the LP aspirant and other politicians in the state to always accord traditional institutions due respect with a view to attracting and enjoying the blessings and protection of the ancestors.

Praying for the Labour Party’s guber hopeful, the monarch asked the god and the ancestors of the land to help Imansuagbon overcome all obstacles, seen and unseen in his journey during the electioneering campaigns.

He told Imansuagbon to be steadfast by ensuring that he keeps to his electoral promises after victory as well as respect the traditional institution in the state for the progress of the Benin Kingdom.

Speaking earlier, Imansuagbon told the Benin monarch that his aim of coming was to first intimate the king of his ambition to contest the governorship election next year under the platform of LP with the logo: “Papa, Mama, and Pikin.”

According to Imansuagbon, who is called ‘Rice Man’, because of his yearly distribution of rice to the needy in the society, “I came to tell my father, His Majesty, the Oba of Benin, my intention to contest the governorship election of our dear state, Edo, and to seek his royal blessing.”

Obaseki Speaks On Process Of Choosing Successor Ahead Of Gubernatorial Election

Meanwhile, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has said the process of choosing his successor ahead of the 2024 gubernatorial election must reflect fairness, equity, and a sense of inclusion.

Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the Edo governorship election will be held on September 21, 2024.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, Obaseki said his administration will finish strong and complete all election campaign promises.

The governor said the goal is to keep Edo as one, and it is not his place to determine, appoint or anoint his successor.

He said, “But all I know is that in the process of seeking my successor, there must be fairness, equity, and a sense of inclusion because our goal is to keep Edo as one.

“For me, that is the only issue I understood that may be a problem, and that should not stop us. The important thing for us as an administration is for us to finish strong and try to complete everything we told Edo people we would do for them during our campaign.”

On his relationship with the State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, Obaseki said he never had anything personal against him.

He said, “I have nothing personal against the Deputy Governor and never had. For me, the issues are very straightforward.”
