Portuguese football manager, Jose Mourinho was left frustrated that fans of Italian Serie A club, Roma, are heavily criticizing him over the club’s poor start to the season.

So far in the 2023-2024 season, Roma which finished in the 6th spot on the league table last season and finished second in the Europa League, are currently occupying the 16th spot on the league table.

Under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho this season, the Italian capital-based side has recorded just one win, two draws, and three defeats in 6 league games.

After Roma’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Genoa on Thursday, September 28, Mourinho admitted that he is currently having the worst start to the season in the history of his managerial career.

Ahead of Roma’s 7th league game of the season which is against Frosinone, Jose Mourinho whose contract with Roma will expire at the end of this season, reminded the fans that he rejected a mouthwatering offer this summer just to remain at the club.

The former Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur manager insisted that he won’t leave Roma until his contract expires next summer despite criticism from the club’s fans.

“I received an important, historical bid in the summer — the biggest ever for a manager”, Mourinho said.

“I decided to reject that proposal as I only wanted to respect my word to AS Roma fans, players, and board.

“Criticism for 5 points in 6 games? I can’t accept to be considered as the problem. Until June 30, I will stay here to fight every single day for the club — for sure”.

According to Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the record-breaking transfer offer Jose Mourinho received was from Al Hilal in June 2023. The said offer is worth €30 million per season but the 60-year-old Portuguese tactician turned it down.
