The Guardian: Despite the despondent state of electricity supply in Nigeria, the Federal Government has spent nothing less than N2.8 trillion to subsidise electricity consumption from 2015 to June, 2023. There are indications that the tariff shortfall may climb to record high in the second half of this year following the suspension of the sector’s Multi Year Tariff Order, implemented through the Service-Based-Tariff (SBT). The SBT had relieved the government and passed the burden of the sector’s inefficiencies to consumers.
Vanguard: The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has slammed the Organised Private Sector, OPS, over its opposition to a nationwide strike on the grounds that the economy cannot withstand country-wide industrial action now.
ThisDay: Barring any last minute breakthrough in discussions between the federal government and labour over relief measures following government’s removal of fuel subsidy, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) may declare an indefinite strike by midnight tomorrow. NLC President, Joe Ajaero, gave the indication while speaking on ARISE News Channel yesterday.
The Nation: The Federal Government at the weekend stepped up action against rising insecurity in parts of the country. Last week, security operatives were killed in an ambush by suspected terrorists in Imo State.
Daily Trust: The Federal Capital Territory and many states are losing trillions of naira to non-payment of ground rents by property owners, Daily Trust can report. They could earn that much if they enforce efficient rent collection through Geographic Information System (GIS).
