Less than three weeks after Chelsea signed Brighton’s Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, they have signed Djordje Petrovic from MLS side New England Revolution today, August 26.

Chelsea were left with no choice but to go for another goalkeeper after losing Edouard Mendy to the Saudi Pro League and losing Kepa on loan to Real Madrid.

Djordje Petrovic is believed to be a backup goalkeeper to Sanchez who has started Chelsea’s three Premier League games this season recording just one clean sheet against newly promoted Luton Town.

Petrovic is a 23-year-old goalkeeper who has made two international appearances for the Serbia national team and joined MLS club England Revolution in April 2022.

In 2022, he made 21 appearances for the MLS side, and this season, he made 22 appearances for the side.

Djordje Petrovic has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, with a club option of a further year, according to a statement on the club’s official website.

After completing his move to Chelsea, Petrovic said, “I’m so happy to be at Chelsea and I’m really excited to get started at this club.

“It’s a big step for me and it’s always been a dream of mine to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world. Today I have achieved that goal and I’m so happy.

“Playing in the Premier League is something I’m really looking forward to doing and I hope to learn many things here at Chelsea. I can’t wait to meet everyone and play at Stamford Bridge.”
