Niger Republic: President Tinubu Receives Feedback From Council Of Ulamas

President Bola Tinubu has approved the return of a delegation of Islamic leaders under the auspices of the Council of Ulamas for more diplomatic talks with the military junta in Niger Republic.

Naija News earlier reported that the Nigerian leader, on Thursday, met with the Islamic leaders inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Islamic leaders, led by Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, had gotten the approval of President Tinubu to negotiate with the coup leaders in the Niger Republic on behalf of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The Ulamas were at the State House to brief the President on the outcome of their discussion with the junta’s head, General Abdourahamane Tchiani.

After the meeting, a statement from the Presidency said President Tinubu approved the return of the Islamic leaders to Niger Republic, for another round of dialogue with the military junta.

The President asked the Islamic leaders to facilitate the restoration of constitutional democratic governance in Niger Republic, to expedite progress in their ongoing dialogue with the military junta.

President Tinubu emphasized that he is at the forefront of a peaceful resolution of the crisis, even in the midst of more hawkish individuals urging swifter intervention.

He told the Islamic delegation that the military junta must be held accountable for putting the entire people of Niger Republic in jeopardy.

President Tinubu also pledged that ECOWAS will remain steadfast in its commitment to diplomatically engage with all stakeholders and seek a peaceful resolution to the impasse in Niger Republic.
