The PUNCH: Despite announcing the removal of subsidy on petrol and more than 400 per cent subsequent rise in the price, the Federal Government may be secretly paying an unspecified amount to marketers of the product to maintain the current pump price.


The Guardian: Notwithstanding last Thursday’s approval of N5 billion for each of the 36 states of the federation by the Federal Government for procurement of food items and fertilisers as part of efforts to alleviate the sufferings occasioned by the removal of petrol subsidy, many of the states are yet to have any concrete palliatives plan for their residents.


The Nation: The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere and the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) yesterday gave the Federal Government a thumbs up on the N5billion palliative grant and other forms of assistance to the 36 states to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.
