EPL: Chelsea's Reece James Suffers Major Injury Ahead Of West Ham Clash

English professional footballer, Reece James, has reportedly suffered a major injury that will keep him off the pitch for a while.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Friday (today) revealed that the Chelsea captain picked up a fresh hamstring injury during the week ahead of the club’s English Premier League clash against West Ham United.

Football London reports that the 23-year-old right-back may miss a couple of matches due to the fresh injury.

It could be recalled that the England international played during his side’s Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday, a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

James was substituted in the 76th minute against Liverpool last week Sunday.

Naija News reports that Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, handed James the club’s captain ban last week. This is coming after Cesar Azpilicueta’s departure to Atletico Madrid this summer.

Earlier, when asked why he took his new skipper off against The Reds, Pochettino said: “Because he was tired.

“You need to see from where he came. The first thing we did when we arrived was to assess and analyse all of the players from the past.

“He was injured for three or four months. This pre-season was tough for him, we didn’t want to take any risk and that is why at 80 minutes, we wanted to avoid the risk.”

While it is not certain how long James will be out, football journalist Nathan Gissing, said he is billed to undergo a scan on Friday.
