President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made Senator John Owan Enoh, who is also known by the acronym JOE, the 36th Minister of Sports Development on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

John Enoh was born on June 4, 1966, in Agbokim Waterfall community, in the Etung local government area of Cross River state.

1. John Enoh attended St. Gregory Primary School, Agbokim Waterfalls, Cross River State.

2. He had his Secondary School Leaving Certificate at St. Augustine Junior Seminary, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State in 1983.

3. In 1988, John Enoh graduated from the University of Calabar, Cross River State where he graduated with B.Sc Sociology (Hons).

4. In 1989, he served as an Assistant to the Director-General, Government Administration as a National Youth Service Corps Member (Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, Ogun State).

5. He had his M.Sc in Demography from the University of Calabar, Cross River State.

6. From 1991 to 1997, he served as a lecturer at the Sociology Department, University of Calabar, Cross River State.

7. From 2003 to 2015, he served as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing the Etung/ Obubra Federal Constituency.

8. From 2015 to 2019, John Owan Enoh served as a Senate Member, Representing Cross River Central Senatorial District.

9. In May 2017, he decamped from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

10. On the platform of the APC, John Enoh contested for governorship in 2019 and lost to the then incumbent governor Ben Ayade.

11. Enoh has been a commercial farmer since 2000 and has over 2000 hectares of cultivated land scattered across Cross River state. He is involved in arable and livestock production.

12. He runs a corporate social responsibility scheme known as the out-grower scheme which empowers local small-scale farmers with arable and livestock to grow on their farms and later provides them with the market to sell the products.

13. John Enoh also runs a foundation known as JOE which provides help for people living with diabetes in Nigeria.
