Defection: PDP's Anyim Pius Meets APC Chairman, Ganduje
APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje and PDP chieftain, Anyim Pius Anyim

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anyim Pius, on Sunday, met with the new National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.

Naija News understands that Anyim visited the former Governor of Kano State at his residence in Abuja yesterday for a closed-door meeting.

It could be recalled that Anyim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, recently met with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock.

Many have interpreted the recent moves by the PDP chieftain as a plot to defect to the ruling APC.

“It was a great honour to pay courtesy to the President and congratulate him, first and foremost, for his successful inauguration as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and also to encourage and congratulate him for the bold decisions he has taken so far,” Anyim had said in July after his meeting with President Tinubu.

Rumours making the rounds are that some key members of the PDP are taking steps to dump the party for the ruling APC.

Many members of the party are said to be ready to accept appointments from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had all promised a government of national unity.

The rumours spread further after the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, was included in the ministerial nominee list sent to the Senate by President Tinubu.

Naija News reports that the Senate has since screened Wike and the PDP chieftain is only waiting for his possible confirmation as a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria.

On Anyim’s account, sources according to Daily Post said the former Senate President is likely on his way to the ruling party.

It could be recalled that during the last general election, Anyim was accused of dumping the PDP governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, to support the APC candidate, now Governor Francis Nwifuru.

It is though unclear whether Anyim supported Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate in the last election.

Amid the rumours of defections looming in the PDP camp, the party leaders met during the weekend but have remained silent on any disciplinary measure against members of the party leaning towards the APC.

“Earlier today, I joined other leaders and stakeholders of our esteemed party, @OfficialPDPNig, including my Vice Presidential candidate, Dr @IAOkowa, Governors, and members of the PDP NWC.

“This meeting provided an opportunity for us to examine the current state of our nation carefully and to thoughtfully articulate a pathway forward from the critical crossroads at which we presently find ourselves,” Atiku had tweeted after the meeting.
