Ondo Flooded Community

Many residents of the Igbobini and Ilu Agbo in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State have been rendered homeless following heavy downpours over the weekend.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Sunday revealed that the communities experienced three days of continuous heavy rainfall, causing significant damage in the communities.

The devastating flood was said to have forced affected residents to seek refuge at a primary school in Ilu Agbo.

“There are many residents of the two communities whose houses have been ravaged by the flood.

“Many of them are now taking refuge at the RCM Primary School Ilu Agbo. It is a serious matter,” Daily Post quoted one of the residents saying.

The residents have since appealed to the state government for assistance as the flood wreaked havoc in their communities.

Naija News learnt that the Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government, Sipasi Aluko, has since visited the affected communities to assess the extent of the damage.

She appealed to both the state and federal governments to urgently come to the aid of the affected residents.

‘Why I Can’t Fix The Roads’ – Edo Gov Speaks After Flood Traps His Convoy

Meanwhile, barely two weeks ago, the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, stated that the state government cannot intervene in fixing the Benin-Auchi and Benin-Sapele Roads because the Federal Government has already awarded contracts for the repair of the roads.

Recall that the Edo State Governor and his official convoy reportedly got trapped in a heavy flood after a rainfall in the state.

Naija News reports that a viral video making the rounds online showed the governor’s convoy struggling to move away from the flooded road.

Reacting in a statement to journalists after the monthly Security Council meeting held in Government House, Benin City, the state capital, Obaseki said that as much as Edo State is a transportation hub, it is concerning that the major Federal Road network in the state, which connects several parts of the Country is in bad condition.

He noted that his administration had done everything in its power to appeal to the Federal Government to look into the repairs of the wide span of damaged Federal Roads in Edo State.

Obaseki added that his administration has drawn the attention of the Federal Government to the failed portions of the Benin-Auchi Roads, Benin-Sapele Road and the Benin-Lagos Road, particularly the Ovia River Bridge, but nothing has been done yet.
