When Chelsea fans thought they have finally found their missing piece ahead of the 2023-2024 Premier League season, the so-called missing piece, Christopher Nkunku, is on the verge of missing out on some Premier League games in the coming weeks.

Christopher Nkunku has been on fire for Chelsea so far this pre-season as he has already scored three goals which is a good sign that he has a lot to offer the West London club that finished 12th in the Premier League last season.

Unfortunately, barely 10 days to Chelsea’s first game of the Premier League season which is against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on August 13, the French attacking-minded player sustained an injury.

Christopher Nkunku sustained what appears to be a knee injury earlier today, August 3, during a pre-season game between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Even though Nkunku staggered off the pitch during the pre-season game, manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed hope that the midfielder had not sustained any serious injuries to his knee.

The France international sustained the injury and ended his pre-season tour when he collided with a teammate. The collision led to a damage to his knee and had to leave the pitch while limping.

Due to his prolific form at RB Leipzig last season in which he scored 23 goals and provided 9 assists in 36 games, Chelsea fans are expecting a lot from him, hence, they were left heartbroken that he had injured his knee even before the season commences.

While giving an update on the nature of Nkunku’s condition, coach Pochettino insisted that more medical checkup is needed to ascertain the state of the injury.

“The doctors are checking him, hopefully it is not a big issue but when he fell in the action maybe it was a penalty,” Pochettino said.

“He feels something in his knee, but hopefully it is not a big issue, and he can be quick with the team. Now we need a few days to assess him and until we get back to London it is difficult to know.”
