The immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has been screened for appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Recall that El-Rufai is among the 28 ministerial nominee list presented to the Senate last week by President Bola Tinubu in a letter delivered by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Having mounted the podium on Tuesday, El-Rufai reeled out his curriculum vitae in brief, after which he responded to a few questions from lawmakers regarding his possibility of becoming a minister.

El-Rufai served as a Federal Capital Territory Minister in Abuja and also served as Governor of Kaduna State.

Naija News reports that there was a rowdy session while El-Rufai was being screened as a lawmaker raised a petition against the former governor.

The lawmaker raising the petition was, however, countered by his colleagues who demanded the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to allow El-Rufai to take a bow and go.

The session turned rowdy for a moment and El-Rufai, who had wanted to respond to the alleged petition, was asked to take a bow and go as senators insisted the petitioner should forward his petition to the proper channel.

They maintained that the session was only to screen the nominees as all petitions would be treated during confirmation.

In his remark earlier, the Senator for Kaduna North, Hon. Barrister Ibrahim Khalid, stated that all three senators representing Kaduna are in full support of the former governor.

He said, “All three senators of Kaduna State are in full support of El-Rufai. He is a very important person in the state.”
