Olumide made this known whilst delivering a speech at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Memorial Lecture in honor of Late Senator (Elder) Anyim Ude.

He said: “I had the honour of delivering the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Memorial Lecture in honour of Late Senator (Elder) Anyim Ude who gave 51 years of his life to the service of his country, Nigeria in different capacities before he passed on to greater glory on 15 May 2023.

“I charged Nigerian Journalists to rise to the occasion, restore the glory of the profession & fulfil their mandate of holding the feet of govt officials to the fire and to do so while observing the highest professional & ethical standards of the profession esp in a fake news era.

“I commend the NUJ leadership and the Memorial Lecture Planning Committee for according this honour to one of its own and I thank them and the family Senator Anyim Ude for finding me worthy of delivering what I hope is the first of more Memorial Lectures.”
