Kwara Nurses, Midwives Association Suspend Planned Strike

The Kwara State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has suspended its 21-day strike ultimatum issued earlier.

The health practitioners had expressed their displeasure over the poor conditions of service of its members.

However, a letter to the state Governor, Malam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Aminu Shehu and Markus Lukas, respectively, revealed that the industrial action by the health practitioners has halted following the express approval of the council’s demand by the governor.

Naija News understands that the demands include, among others, the recruitment of more nurses into the health sector, upward review of CONHESS from 70%-100%, implementation of hazard allowance (N32,000-N34,000), and implementation of uniform allowance.

As a result of the aforementioned approval of our demands by his Excellency, the leadership of the association wishes to suspend the 21-day ultimatum issued,” the council’s letter stated.

It added: “While waiting for the cash backing, within the month, we appeal to our members to remain calm and committed to their service to humanity.”

The association prayed to God to uplift and grant Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq more wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state.
