Denver Broncos defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike is the most recent NFL player to get a suspension for violating the league’s gambling policies.

In 2022, a then-wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, Calvin Ridley, was suspended for a similar offense but made a comeback in March this year.

The Detroit Lions terminated the contracts of Quintez Cephus, CJ Moore, and Stanley Berryhill for being among the five players fined in April for violating the NFL’s betting rules.

Nicholas Petit-Frere, a right lineman for the Tennessee Titans, was fined for gambling on other sporting events while using the team’s facilities.

In the same vein, Indianapolis Colts terminated the contracts of Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry, who were among three players suspended for the 2023 season for a similar offense.

In the case of Eyioma Uwazurike whose late father, Roland, was from Nigeria, has been placed on indefinite suspension for betting on league games during his first season in 2022.

The 25-year-old Uwazurike will be placed on indefinite leave and be unable to apply for reinstatement until July 24, 2024.

A statement from his club, Denver Broncos, reads, “Our organization fully co-operated with this investigation and takes matters about the integrity of the game very seriously.

“The Denver Broncos will continue to provide all members of our organization with the necessary education, resources, and support to ensure compliance with the NFL’s gambling policy.”
