"It Wasn't Easy" - APC National Chairman Opens Up On How Akpabio, Abbas, Others Emerged

A former publicity secretary for the All Progressive Progressive Congress (APC), Lanre Isa-Onilu has stated reasons for the missteps of Senator Abdullahi Adamu during his time as the party’s National Chairman.

Isa-Onilu in an interview with PoliticsHub, a show on Vanguard, on Tuesday, criticized Adamu for not continuing the party’s reconciliation process once he took over as chairman.

Recall, Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, the APC National Secretary, resigned on Sunday, while Abubakar Kyari replaced Adamu as the new APC National Chairman.

Adamu, originally the head of the APC reconciliation committee, was expected to help settle conflicts within the party.

Instead, Isa-Onilu accused him of bias, particularly during the primary elections, saying, “You can’t build trust when you are clearly partisan.”

Adamu’s actions prompted the term “emilokan” after he threatened to discipline Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate at the time.

Tinubu responded with the “emilokan” retort amidst multiple crises, including a fuel shortage and the redesign of the naira.

Isa-Onilu further criticized Adamu for his poor judgement and prejudice against Tinubu.

He claimed that Adamu failed in his role when the party was selecting its national assembly leadership, suggesting that Adamu and his group acted against the president’s wishes.

When the national assembly selected their leaders, Adamu publicly disagreed, which Isa-Onilu perceived as a direct affront to the president, saying, “You don’t want such a level of impudence from your national chairman.”
