Tinubu’s Cabinet: Ex-CJN Son Might Be Named AGF

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly considering the possibility of naming a son of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), whose name has been withheld, as the country’s Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the said former CJN whose son could be named AGF, had the honor of serving as Nigeria’s Attorney General and was also the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The unnamed ex-CJN has reportedly held positions throughout both military and the First Republic.

Another Senior Advocate from Oyo State was briefly considered by the president’s inner circle to be the AGF, but he was allegedly dropped because the appointment might have contravened Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution because a relative of his was allegedly already in a prominent position.

Insiders said that as of Sunday evening, July 17, Tinubu’s ministerial list was still being processed and the security agencies had evaluated some of the names the president had provided.

The president is said to have chosen one of the ex-CJN’s sons to handle the critical judiciary sector after Tinubu’s lawyer and longtime friend, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), reportedly rejected the offer.

Reports claimed that 71-year-old Olanipekun who is in charge of Tinubu’s defense in the Presidential Election Petitions Court, rejected the offer to be the country’s AGF because of his advanced age.

When contacted, the Ekiti high chief declined to speak, saying that it wasn’t the right moment, according to the Nigerian Tribune.
