Leicester City and Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho have been linked to an unexpected summer move to Nottingham Forest.

Iheanacho will return to pre-season training at Seagrave on Friday after taking an additional few days off due to his involvement in Nigeria’s international games in June. The Nigerian striker is one of the players at King Power Stadium whose contracts have just one year left.

According to Santi Aouna, a French journalist, Forest has ‘started talks’ to sign Iheanacho this summer. He also said coach Steve Cooper’s team wants to “close the deal in the coming days.”

This suggests that the relegated Leicester City are willing to make a profit off the potential sale rather than losing him for free next summer.

However, Aouna did not specify the price tag slammed on Kelechi Iheanacho who Leicester bought from Manchester City six years ago for £25 million.

Iheanacho has appeared in 206 games in all competitions for Leicester, contributing 33 assists and scoring 55 goals.

If Iheanahco leaves this summer, Leicester would focus more on buying Swansea City’s Joel Piroe. This summer, the club has been widely associated with the striker, although there may be competition from several other clubs.

The Dutchman has a track record of scoring goals at the Championship level, having led Swansea in league goals with 19 last season. The 23-year-old’s contract will expire in the summer of 2024 just as Iheanacho’s contract.
