Guinea Bissau defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria despite having the prolific Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria started the game more composed and in full control, especially in the first 15 minutes but that changed towards the 20th-minute mark in favour of Guinea Bissau.

A long pass located Mama Baldé in the 29th minute and the pacing forward took advantage of the pass which caught the Super Eagles’ defense napping. He played the ball in between the legs of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho who stood no chance.

The goal made all the difference as the Super Eagles tried throughout the first 45 minutes to break the defense of their visitors but could not.

In the second half, Guinea Bissau threatened the Super Eagles’ defense more than ever with their counter-attacking tactics.

On the other hand, the Nigerian players failed to feed Victor Osimhen with enough passes to be able to make any difference.

Nigeria’s best chances in the game fell in the hands of Samuel Chukwueze and substitute Paul Onuachu but they could not do much with it.

After 90 minutes and additional five minutes of football, Guinea Bissau defeated Nigeria for the first time in their history.

On Monday, March 27, the Super Eagles will try to beat Guinea Bissau in the second leg which will kick off at 5 PM. The Nigerian side is condemned to win the game to stand a chance of qualifying for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Currently, Guinea Bissau are topping Group A with 7 points in 3 games while Nigeria is sitting second with 6 points in three games.
