The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in a now-deleted tweet made a false claim about the female FCT senator-elect, Ireti Kingibe.

Naija News reported that Kingibe sacked Philip Aduda from Senate after 12 years of occupying the position.

She was part of the Senators-elect who received their Certificates of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday.

The Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, presented the certificates to the winners of the just concluded senatorial elections held on February 25 at the National Collation Centre (International Conference Centre), Abuja.

In the first post shared on Twitter, Peter Obi claimed Ireti was the first female senator-elect in FCT and was criticized for making such a false claim.

Some netizens said the error might not have emanated from the former governor of Anambra State as it could have been done by one of his personal assistants.

The tweet was subsequently deleted and the correction was made to reflect that Ireti Kingibe was the second senator-elect in FCT.

He wrote in a new tweet: “A very hearty congratulations to Senator-elect Mrs @ireti_kingibe; the second elected female senator for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Her election is in keeping with our commitment to women and youth.”
