Kogi Speaker, Matthew Kolawole Loses Reps Seat To ADC Candidate

The Kogi State Speaker of the House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole has lost his bid to got to the House of Representatives to the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Idris Salman.

Naija News gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday declared Salman the winner of the election for Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in Kogi.

According to the Returning Officer, Dr Adams Baba, Salman emerged the winner of the election with 13, 867 votes, defeating the Kogi Speaker, Kolawole who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and polled 13,605 votes.

The Returning Officer, while announcing the results on Monday in Kabba said the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olaiya Olobatoke scored 10,967 votes, while that of the SDP, Bello Abayomi had 536 votes, and the candidate of Accord party, Seun Sylvanus got 127 votes, while the NNPP’s Adebayo David got 536 votes.

Baba then declared that ” Idris Salman of ADC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

INEC on Feb. 26, declared the result of the constituency inconclusive, due to the difference between the margin of win and voided results in two polling units, but the commission was able to resolve the figure for declaration.

However, Naija News learnt that some supporters also on Monday protested through the streets of Lokoja to the INEC office in the state to contest election results for the Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu House of Representatives seat.
