No Worshipper Was Kidnapped By Bandits In Zamfara Mosque - Police

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State has announced the restriction of vehicular movement in Ondo state between midnight and 6p.m. on Feb. 25 because of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The restriction was ordered by the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Oyeyemi Oyediran, spokesperson for the command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya said in a statement.

She quoted Oyediran as saying that the order was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Usman Baba.

He, however, explained that INEC officials, electoral observers, ambulances, fire fighters and others on confirmed essential and emergency services would be exempted.

“There will be no movement or escort of VIPs throughout the election period, while the state security outfits are not allowed to be part of such VIP movements,“ the statement said.

The CP, who assured the people of adequate security throughout the exercise, solicited their support in ensuring a peaceful conduct of the elections.

Rivers State Police Confirms Arrest Of Chinyere Igwe

Meanwhile, the Rivers State police command has confirmed the arrest of a member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe.
Naija News had earlier reported that Igwe was arrested for allegedly having $500,000 US Dollars reportedly given to him by the presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

The spokesman of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the lawmaker was arrested during a stop and search operation by operatives deployed to the Independent National Electoral Commission office along Aba Road in Port Harcourt.

Iringe-Koko also confirmed that a list for the distribution of the money was found on the lawmaker.

The statement released by the command reads, “Police Officers from Rivers State Command deployed to INEC Headquarters Aba Road today 24/2/2023 at about 0245hrs, while on stop and search, arrested one Hon Chinyere Igwe, member House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency with a cash sum of USD 498,100 inside a bag in his car.

“Also recovered was a list for distribution of the money. The Assistant Inspector General of Police (Election) AIG Abutu Yaro, has ordered
swift interrogation and arraignment in court.

“The Command urges all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.”
