Peter Obi Reacts To Murder Of Labour Party Senatorial Candidate In Enugu

The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to the murder of Oyibo Chukwu, a Senatorial candidate of the party in Enugu State.

Naija News had earlier reported that Chukwu was killed and set ablaze alongside five supporters who were with him inside his car.

The incident happened at Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area on Wednesday evening.

It was gathered that unidentified persons were said to have accosted them while riding in a Sienna vehicle.

The incident was confirmed by the governorship candidate of the LP in the state, Chijioke Edeoga.

According to Edeoga, the gunmen shot him inside his vehicle with five other people with him and set the car ablaze.

Edeoga further stated that their party members are being targeted for assassination by their opposition ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Reacting, Peter Obi expressed sadness over the incident stating that it is time for healing and the unknown gunmen should stop the killings.

While condoling with the family of the bereaved and the party at large, the former governor of Anambra State called on law enforcement agents to bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.

He said: “I received with deep shock and sadness, the news of the painful killing of Barr Oyibo Chukwu, the Senatorial Candidate of the Labour Party, for Enugu East Senatorial Zone

“Enough of the killings, now is time for healing. I sincerely condole with the bereaved family, the Enugu East Senatorial Zone and our dear Labour Party family, for this painful loss. I call on the law enforcement agents to fish out and bring to book, the perpetrators of this crime, and ensure that Nigerians freely exercise their civic duties without intimidation”
