Following the unsuccessful attempt to hold a campaign rally in Rivers State, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has made up for it with a meeting of PDP stakeholders in Abuja.

Naija News gathered that the PDP flag bearer met with Rivers State stakeholders in Abuja on Sunday evening, ahead of Saturday’s polls.

Giving the focus of the meeting Atiku’s campaign Director, Public Communications, Dino Melaye explained that the meeting became necessary because of the party’s inability to hold a rally in Rivers State due to the impasse with the state governor Nyesom Wike.

Melaye said the meeting was to compensate for the missed rally which was boycotted by the party in the state.

It was learnt that the co-convener, Lee Maeba, expressed optimism about the PDP recording a landslide victory in Rivers State.

He as well highlighted some federal projects like the completion of the East-West Road that Atiku should prioritise in the state if elected as president.

The PDP flag bearer at the meeting pledged the full completion of the East-West Road and to revamp the Federal Government amnesty programme upon assuming office.

Atiku, while addressing the gathering  noted that the country was in one of the most challenging times in its history, noting that Nigeria is more divided than before, as the economy and security have worsened.

He explained that to redirect the country back, there there is a great need to “work together when we are all elected.”

It was learnt that Atiku excused the meeting to attend another gathering with the PDP National Assembly candidates.

But in his absence, his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa appealed for campaigns to continue at the constituencies and senatorial districts level.

He urged the federal legislative candidates to carry continue campaigning and win their elections, saying the PDP needed the majority in both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Okowa also admonished them to protect their votes cast for the PDP on Saturday at the polls.

Others present at the meeting include a former National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus; Senator Ben Bruce; a former governor of Rivers state, Celestine Omehia, among other prominent party members in the state.
