Police Declare 24-hour Curfew In Kano After Tribunal Judgment

The ban imposed on public gatherings in Kwara State has been lifted by the State police command on Saturday.

Naija News reports the Kwara police imposed a temporary ban on public gatherings on Wednesday to prevent the hijack of gatherings by hoodlums because of the pockets of protest recorded from the cash crunch and the fuel scarcity.

However, in a statement, a statement issued in Ilorin on Saturday by the spokesman of the command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the State Commissioner of Police, Paul Odama, announced the lift of the ban.

The command who gave its reasons for the ban applauded the good people of Kwara State for their determination to work with security agencies to deepen the peace and harmony Kwara State is known for, regardless of the inconveniences attached thereto.

Odama explained that the ban on ban on rallies and processions in the state has aided the command in promptly preventing criminal elements from taking advantage of the protest of the ongoing naira swap and fuel crises across the country.

He said the ban has been lifted now because security details have been put in place to handle any unforeseen circumstances if need be.

Odama in the statement said “This press release is to inform the public that their cooperation and strict compliance with the order of temporarily banning rallies and processions in the State has helped the command in quickly preventing criminal elements from taking advantage of the fuel and Naira note swap challenges.

“Consequently, the command wishes to lift the imposed ban on rallies and processions in the State as all necessary security arrangements have been put in place across the State to forestall any security breach, now, during, and after the general elections,”

The command also restated its full commitment to continue to discharge its constitutionally assigned duty of protecting the lives and property of citizens and residents alike.
