Ademola Lookman, a striker for Atalanta, claims he doesn’t regret choosing the national team of Nigeria over the Threes Lions of England, even though he joined the Super Eagles while they were struggling to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Ademola Lookman was born in London to Nigerian parents which means that he was eligible to play for either country. However, he pledged his allegiance to Nigeria after he had represented England’s youth teams.

The 25-year-old forward made his senior debut with the Super Eagles in March 2022, ahead of the crucial World Cup Qualifiers match against Ghana, in which the country was denied a place in the tournament.

While speaking with an Italian publication L’Eco di Bergamo as quoted by Calcioatalanta, Lookman said, “I have no regrets. I took the right decision. This is my career; I want to play for Nigeria. I am proud of this. I was born in England, but my family is from Nigeria and I have a strong bond with both countries.”

Ademola Lookman is happy at Atalanta

On his stay at Atalanta so far, Lookman says that the Italian club is enjoyable.

Lookman, who Atalanta bought from RB Leipzig for €9 million last summer, has dominated Serie A and recently admitted that he choose the Italian team because they can score “many goals.”

Since he joined the club, he has scored 12 goals in 20 league matches, providing four assists.

He has quickly become a regular starter under coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Lookman scored two of his 12 Serie A goals against Juventus in a match in January. After the game, Coach Gasperini complimented the new director of the club, Lee Congerton for bringing Lookman to the Geiwss Stadium.

Ahead of Atalanta’s clash with Lazio at 20:45 on Sunday, Lookman said, “I joined Atalanta because they are a great team and score many goals.

“I am happy here, I knew I could do great things.”
