The Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has reacted to claims of abandoning a couple who gave birth to sextuplets and seeking help from his government.

Naija News earlier reported that Ngozi Uzodike, a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, delivered a set of septuplets (seven babies) at the Obijackson Women and Children Hospital, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area on Sunday, January 8, 2022.

The new mother who works at the Department of Business Administration delivering, two boys and five girls, lamented that she had not been paid salaries since she started working at the institution in December 2020.

This comes after the hospital is threatening to stop medication on six of her babies after losing one of the children, a girl.

Speaking to journalists, her husband, Celestine Uzodike, said they could only pay N1.6m of the N9m billed by the hospital.

Uzodike lamented that his wife had never earned a kobo as salary even after being promoted from Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer II.

He further appealed to the Federal Government to pay the two years salary arrears owed to the new mother and also come to their aid.

However, a controversial Instagram blog called out Soludo, alleging that he abandoned the couple despite the letters earlier written to his office with regards to seeking assistance.

Soludo Reacts

In a statement on Tuesday, via Twitter, Soludo debunked the social media claims of negligence, stating that the report about the couple was received in his office by the close of work last week Friday.

Soludo noted that regardless of how the situation turned out, his administration will provide massive assistance to the couple.

The statement read: “My attention has just been drawn to the social media report alleging that state government “abandoned” the couple who were blessed with sextuplet.

“Report about the incident was received in my office by close of work on Friday last week, as shown in the memo below.

“Regardless, the State government has committed to providing massive assistance to the couple.

“Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Uzodike.”
