Gunmen Strikes, Abducts Catholic Priest In Ekiti

A group of unknown gunmen has kidnapped  the Parish Priest of Saint George’s Catholic Church Omu Ekiti in Oye Local Government, Reverend Father Michael Olofinlade

Naija News learned that Reverend Olofinlade, who was ambushed, was abducted on Saturday evening between Itaji and Ijelu Ekiti while returning from Ado Ekiti.

The Owajumu of Omu Ekiti, Oba Adeyeye Ogundeyi, said security agencies and local hunters have launched a manhunt for the abducted Reverend Father.

As of press time, the police are yet to respond to the incident.

Four Killed As Gunmen Attack Anambra Community

Meanwhile, at least four people were reportedly killed on Tuesday evening when unknown gunmen stormed Nzomiwu Street in the Eziani community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The assailants invaded the community yesterday, shooting aimlessly and killing the victims; three males and a female said to be pregnant.

Sources who confirmed the incident to The PUNCH said the target of the gunmen could not be ascertained yet as they only came in shooting into the air and immediately fled the scene after killing the victims.

Confirming the attack in a press statement, the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the bodies of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary.

Ikenga said, “Police/military operations have been intensified in Ihiala and its neighbouring town as operatives responded to a distress call in the early hours of Tuesday on Nzomiwu Street, Eziani, Ihiala, recovered lifeless bodies, three males and one female at the scene.

“Preliminary information revealed that the criminal elements armed with Ak47, started shooting indiscriminately and unprovoked; unfortunately, bullets hit four unarmed civilians. The bodies have been deposited in the morgue.”
