Arsenal players celebrate their goal against Brighton on Saturday, December 31.

Before Evan Ferguson added Brighton’s second goal to provoke tension amidst Gunners’ fans, Gabriel Martinelli scored Arsenal’s fourth.

To prevent the home crowd from witnessing a spectacular finish, Mitoma’s second goal was disallowed as Arsenal held on to earn the maximum three points.

For the first hour, Brighton was well behind the game’s action, but after Martinelli had regained the three-goal lead, they displayed incredible grit to cut the deficit again through Ferguson.

With two minutes left, Mitoma appeared to have scored again, and the team thought they had made it 4-3. However, a VAR review revealed that the Japanese midfielder was only slightly offside.

With both teams having played 16 games, Arsenal returns to action on Tuesday against Newcastle United, bolstered by a commanding looking advantage over champions City.
