2023 Kebbi Governorship: APC, PDP In Close Battle As 8 LGA Results Emerge

The seat of a former speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Abdulmumini Kamba and three other lawmakers have been declared vacant.

Naija News gathered that their seats were declared vacant following their defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The other lawmakers whose seats were declared vacant are Muhammad Buhari Aliero, Samaila Salihu Bui and Habibu Labbo Gwandu.

Kamba was removed as Speaker of the state House of Assembly last year over his alleged loyalty to Senator Adamu Aliero’s group.

Bui following his defection from the All Progressives Congress to PDP was made running mate to the party’s governorship candidate in the state.

The clerk of the assembly, Usman Ahmed while giving the reason for declaring their seat vacant said it is, “in line with Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The lawmakers before their seats were declared vacant released a statement tagged, ‘Enough of Intimidation and Clampdown on Oppositions by Kebbi State Government’.

The statement reads, “Government has concluded plans to clamp down on the opposition in the house with the objective to suspend us.

“The plan is to silence the opposition, particularly the PDP members in the house, through intimidation and financial inducement to some unscrupulous minds in the house to achieve this purpose.”
