Tinubu Bound To Take Some Tough Decisions - Keyamo

The Chief Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, has said the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, will not mind working with the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Keyamo stated this hours after the PDP governors and some party leaders now known as the Integrity group met behind closed doors on Sunday at the Southern Sun hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

In a communique read by a former governor of Plateau State Jonah Jang, the group reiterated its readiness for reconciliation, saying that they are still open to dialogue.

The group said its demands which include the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyiocha Ayu, and the choice of his successor from the South still stand.

According to the communique, the governors maintained that they will not participate in the PDP presidential campaign and support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar until their demands are met.

Reacting to the development in a chat with The Punch, Keyamo said the APC and Tinubu are focused on consolidating their stronghold but would not mind exploiting the festering crisis in the PDP.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment said the ruling party is proceeding from the position of calculating its strength without thinking of the PDP crisis.

Kyeamo, however, said the APC could consider the PDP crisis as an added advantage, but not a factor to determine the party’s victory in 2023.

He said, “I don’t know of any talks between APC and the G-5. At least, not to my knowledge. However, despite their quarrel with the PDP, as of today, they are still members of the party.

“Let me repeat it for the umpteenth time. For us, we are proceeding from the position of calculating our strength, without thinking of the quarrel or weakness of the PDP. We are not depending on it.

“If after calculating our strength and the implosion continues in the PDP by the end of the day, we can then consider it as an added advantage, but not a factor to tilt the scale to our victory. It may make victory easier if they come through the door we have opened for them. Anything can happen. But we are not looking out for that possibility. We are just saying in politics, anything can happen.”
