Insecurity: El-Rufai Raises Concern On 2023 Elections, Population Census

On Friday, Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai expressed fears about the forthcoming 2023 general elections due to the insecurity in his state and other parts of Nigeria.

According to the governor, the rate of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the country still poses a major threat to the February polls and population census if not addressed.

Naija News understands that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governor raised the concern after receiving the state’s quarterly security report presented by the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, last Friday.

The report presented to El-Rufai indicated that 446 people were killed while 1,789 others were abducted in Kaduna in the last six months.

It also revealed that 152 bandits were killed and 624 others arrested by troops in different parts of the state during the period under review.

On his part, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who was also present at the presentation, insisted that the security situation in the country has subsided.

According to him, the security alert issued by the United States embassy in Nigeria has just stirred fear among citizens and terrified them.

Naija News understands that Kaduna, located in the North-West zone of the country, has witnessed a series of attacks by bandits and terrorists in the past five years.

Scores of people that may be missing in the report have died, and thousands kidnapped while others have their means of livelihood disrupted.
