The Kwara state Fire Service recovered two dead bodies and a Toyota Yaris car from a river opposite Olusola Saraki Abattoir, along Sobi road in Ilorin, on Saturday.

The Head of Department, Media and Publicity of the service, Hassan Adekunle, in a statement said the operation was carried out with the support of residents after they were notified on Friday.

He further urged the general public to desist from driving during a heavy downpour.

The victims were struggling to drive through the bridge and suddenly got stuck in the flood which pushed them into the river”, Adekunle who gave the car’s registration number as Lagos APP544E noted.

He said, “the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, has therefore urged the general public to avoid driving whenever there is heavy rainfall”.

Man Who Sexually Abused Minor Jailed For Life

Meanwhile, a Federal high court sitting in Abeokuta on Friday sentenced a man, Lanso Ogundele, to life imprisonment for sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl.

During the trial, the state Prosecution Counsel, T.O Adeyemi, a Senior Counsel told the court that the convict committed the offence in Sept. 2018 at Olugbo area in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun.

The counsel said the convict who is a neighbour to the victim’s parents, sent the girl on an errand while her parents were away.

“When the victim came back to deliver the message, the convict lured her into his room and forcefully had intercourse with her,” he said.

Adeyemi said that the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and the medical report conducted revealed that the victim was sexually abused.
