10th Senate: Shettima Apologizes Over Christian Better Than Muslim Comment

A coalition of North-East and North Central stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), to review the choice of former governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima as its vice presidential candidate.

The Secretary-General of the group, Dauda Yakubu while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, asked the party to make a move towards resolving the lingering crisis plaguing the party.

Naija News recalls that the division in the APC began after its presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced Shettima as his running mate.

The decision has since then caused suspicion amongst members of the party and Nigerians.

Reacting to the situation, the Secretary-General of the group, insisted that there was a lot at stake if the party chooses to go ahead with the same faith ticket.

Dauda Yakubu noted, “To avoid outright rejection in 2023, the coalition, therefore, urges the party to resolve the impasse that has come about as a result of Muslim-Muslim ticket.”

The coalition urged the APC to initiate steps and measures toward replacing Shettima with a notable party member of the Christian faith.

The group advised the party to make the move towards replacing the former governor before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), final list of presidential candidates, which is to be published on September 20.

Yakubu argued that it would not be healthy for the party to be seen as disregarding and disrespecting of the Christian community in Nigeria, insisting that such a public image would lead to a massive electoral loss.
