Shekarau Visits Ailing Ex-Head Of State, Abdulsalami In London

Presidency Under Fire Over Confirmation Of Abdusalami's Health Status

Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, representing Kano state central senatorial district, on Friday afternoon visited ailing former Head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) in London.

It will be recalled that General Abubakar who was flown to London on medical tourism a couple of months ago emerged as Nigerian Head of state after the demise of General Sani Abacha June 8th, 1998.

However Senator Shekarau, former Kano state governor, was in London, the United Kingdom, alongside a number of his colleagues on oversight functions.

This was contained in a terse statement by Senator Shekarau’s media aide, Dr Sule Yau Sule that was made available to pressmen in Kano on Friday.

The statement said “While in London His Excellency Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, took time to visit the former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar currently recuperating after being discharged from a hospital.”

Dr. Yau Sule also disclosed that “His Excellency Senator Ibrahim Shekarau arrived London on Monday on a five day official assignment.

“Others include Senator Smart Adeyemi and Hon Mannir Babba Danagundi.”

The statement further disclosed that his principal while in London attended “This year’s international conference and tour of the United Kingdom Parliament for parliamentarians, Commissioners and staff of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and state assemblies.”

Dr. Yau Sule further disclosed that “in attendance are the chairman Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service Senator Ibrahim Shekarau and that of the House of Representatives, Hon Engr Bala Sani, whose committees supervise the function of the commission.”
