FCN Asks International Communities To Consider Ortom's Call Against Violence In Nigeria

The Forum of Concerned Nigerians (FCN), has asked the international communities to consider the call by the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom to assist in ending the daily increase in violence against innocent citizens in Nigeria.

Mr. Peter Shande, the spokesperson of the group during a press conference on Tuesday in Makurdi, urged the international communities not to treat the Governor’s call with levity, as Nigeria was too important in the African continent and comity of nations to be allowed to become a failed state simply because of the failed All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

The group which described Governor Ortom as one Nigerian leader who has chosen to be the voice of the voiceless, appealed to the United States, the United Kingdom and other world powers to intervene in the security situation in Nigeria without further delay.

They also backed Governor Ortom’s call for the immediate establishment of a Special Envoy to Nigeria by the international communities to deal with insecurity in the country.

The group however warned the federal government not to attempt to silence the Governor as such would amount to government silencing the majority of hapless Nigerians.

“In view of the catalogue of threats, attacks and other negative things thrown at Governor Ortom, we found the alarm concerning his safety very timely, compelling and urgent.

“We, therefore, urge the international community not to treat the Governor’s call with levity. Nigeria is too important in the African continent and comity of nations to be allowed to become a failed state simply because of politics

“We want to appeal that the United States, the United Kingdom and other world powers to intervene in the security situation in Nigeria without further delay. The governor’s call for the establishment of a Special Envoy on Nigeria to deal with insecurity be considered as well with immediate effect.

“We want to tell the Presidency that we are watching keenly, and nothing must happen to the Benue State Governor because, he is representing the vulnerable Nigerians who are suffering from one attack to the other by terrorists,” the FCN spokesperson cautioned.
