The National Chairman of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju Tinubu (SWAGA), Senator Dayo Adeyeye, has denied plans to Islamise Nigeria through the Muslim-Muslim ticket adopted by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that widespread criticism has greeted the announcement of Senator Kashim Shettima as the running mate of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and a close ally of Tinubu, Babachir Lawal, had described the Muslim-Muslim ticket as “satanic.”

Speaking at a media parley in Abuja at the weekend, Adeyeye said the emergence of  Tinubu and Shettima is not a plan to Islamise the country.

According to the former Senator, Tinubu’s decision to pick a fellow Muslim is not satanic.

Dayo Adeyeye noted that Nigeria had had a joint faith ticket in the past, stressing that a Muslim-Muslim ticket is not new to Nigerian politics.

He said, “Asiwaju Tinubu cannot Islamise Nigeria because he doesn’t have such antecedence as Governor of Lagos State for eight years. As a matter of fact, his administration returned the missionary schools to the original owners.

“Also, if Tinubu could not Islamise his wife, how will he Islamise the entire country? His wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is not only a Christian but a top official of the church she attends.”
