Bassey Akpan Emerges YPP Governorship Candidate In Akwa Ibom
Sen. Bassey Akpan

A former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Bassey Akpan has completed a membership form to officially identify himself with the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

Naija News reports that the lawmaker representing the Akwa Ibom North East renounced his membership of the PDP on July 15, 2022, a development coming a few months after announcing his intention to run for the office of the governor of Akwa Ibom State in the 2023 general election.

The 9th National Assembly lawmaker said in a letter addressed to his ward chairman in Ibiono Ibom Eastern Ward 1 of Ibiono Ibom local government area of the State, that he resolved to withdraw from the PDP after consulting God, friends and families and his colleagues in the political affairs.

Senator Akpan and his over 5000 supporters have now declared their allegiance to the YPP in the state.

Naija News understands that the politicians were received into YPP on Monday (today) and celebrated at Akpan’s hometown Ibiono Ibom Eastern 1 ward.

Akpan, accompanied by his wife, Imaobong, picked membership cards number 3887 and 5006, respectively. The couples completed all the party membership registration formalities before the ward chairman and presented the forms to the state chairman, Pastor Nyenime Andy.

While welcoming him and others into the new party, Andy said the YPP has become the fastest growing party in the state with the senator’s entrance.

Speaking after the reception, Akpan declared himself a vessel in the hand of God to bring positive change to Akwa Ibom State.

He said though some persons boast in their financial powers, they can never buy the conscience and rights of the people even as he commended the party chairman, pastor Andy for rejecting all financial inducements from dubious elements to do wrong.

“Today, a new Akwa Ibom births. Akwa Ibom for you and Akwa Ibom for me. Akwa Ibom where there will be justice for all.

“2023 will be about character, competence and capacity, and I promise not to let you people down,” the senator said.

He pledged that he and his teeming supporters were joining the party to help build and improve the foundation so that it can form the next government of Akwa Ibom State.
